No Chart Directories

New to this Forum, I just installed Open CPN and when I check Tool Box>Settings>Show Charts, and then click on Charts, no chart directories appear in the Available Chart Directories box - only all of the various directories in my computer. What am I missing here??

Under 'Toolbox', click 'Charts' tab. Then you need to highlight the directories in the 'Available Chart Directories' that actually contain your charts, then click the 'Add Selection' button.

They will then show up in the lower 'Active Chart Directories' box. If there are no directories listed down there, then OpenCPN won't display any charts.

But that's my whole problem - so far I have no charts or chart directories!!

When you download some charts, a directory will be created during the install. You may have to create and specify a folder.

Get some NOAA charts.

Ahhh! You can download both raster and vector charts free from NOAA and you'll be ready to go.

Does that include Canadian charts?

No

Canadian charts are copyrighted and need to be purchased.

There is some boundary water charts in the NOAA charts that include some of the Canadian waters, in the West it covers about 100 Nm.

Canadian Nautical charts are for sale. Other Canadian maps/charts are not, how odd?

These are primarily small scale charts, although I noticed that NGA has some large scale charts.

Not sure about your last question. All Canadian Hydrographic Services charts need to be purchased.
