Spot gen 3

I did a couple searches. Didn't find much past the spot 2. Has anybody tried the spot gen 3s? I have epirb for safety but thought the tracking and updating would be interesting. Gulf of Mexico down to Honduras

Re: Spot gen 3

Becareful who has your tracking page. You may just get a rescue sent your way when you didn't even know you were in trouble. Especially if a boating forum has your info and is constantly speculating on how fast the dot on the screen is moving. Just ask Boatman

(and yes I was one of those people stirring up question and worry over boaties grand adventure across the atlantic.)

Re: Spot gen 3

have the gen 3. like it. the LEDs are way too bright for night use. do not have it anywhere you need to have night vision.. unless you think green blobs in your vision all night!

battery life is a lot less than the gen 1 i had.. but not bad though.

also you can use Gen3 under the deck.. very powerfull. just leave on the nav desk.. it works..
and usb power connection is lifesaver when you couldnt find lithium batteries at sea..

pirate Re: Spot gen 3

Be aware..
It seems Spot is NOT effective in the Indian Ocean, S Africa and Southern Ocean.. as to the whole of the Pacific I cannot say.. I only bought mine last year for that Lagoon delivery from Florida.

But.. if you decide to get one ask 'SPOT' if they can vouch for its effectivness Worldwide..
I've tested it across the Atlantic and in the Med and it works well enough
