Mounting to Wood Atop the Mast

I was talking to another individual about mounting a tri-light and a wind indicator on the top of a mast. He suggested to mount it to wood rather than an aluminum mounting. It would help with electrolysis. The wood will last for years. I'd be concerned with attaching to the wood strong enough that it would stay up in strong winds. An aluminum bracket could be, I think, attached more securely. Any thoughts?

Re: Mounting to wood on top of the mast

Use a conventional aluminum bracket.

Re: Mounting to Wood Atop the Mast

Use a conventional stainless steel bracket or whatever that came with the unit. However, use Lanacote or TufGel to coat the screws that hold everything together and to the mast.
- - Most corrosion is between the aluminum mast and the stainless screws and or the base of the bracket. Wood is the least favorable thing to use as the wood rots and wears away with sun, wind and rain.
- - If you can find it, there is a tape made from teflon that can be placed on the bottom of the bracket surface that will be up against the mast. But in all cases, coat the screws with the above mentioned Lanacote or TefGel.
