MMSI vs 'Selective Calling No.'

For no clear good reason I just applied for a Marine VHF permit from the FCC. Ostensibly because I have a ham license, and I wanted to be sure the MMSI was correctly associated with my FCC FRN.

Anyhow, I printed out m "Radio Station Authorization" and there is a box with my MMSI, and a second (blank) box for ny "Selective Calling No."

What's that? I though that would be my (FCC assigned) MMSI. Can anyone provide clarification as to the difference?

I seem to make my life more complicated by asking these questions.
