JRC Radar Question

Good morning all
I am looking at a JRC Radar setup and was wanting input from others who might have the same system. The system I am looking at in a JRC LCD 1000. I like the fact that it is an LCD display (smaller and less power consumption). Anyone have pluses or minuses? Thanks to all. Pat

My friends had one back in 2003 and did not like it. They said it lacked resolution and screen contrast.

Furuno 1623 an alternative and highly spoken by owners. I used this one too and was not impressed (still this is the one I would get given the price/features).

Used many of the small Ray units and some of Simrad and they all were great. But more pricey than JRC or Furuno.

I have no experience with the model you're looking at, but have had a JRC 1800 since 2003, works troublefree except for the day it fell on my head, but thats another story. When I purchased mine, it was because it was what most of the commercial fisherman I saw used, and that was good enough for me. That said, the new boat has a Furuno unit and I am also impressed with it.

I have the JRC 1500 which appears similar to the model you are looking at. Something has caused a short in the rotary knob that you use to adjust the range and gain. It can be very frustrating at times as you turn the knob to zoom in and it zooms out and so you turn the other way and it zooms out further. Target wise I have not had any issues with it picking up the usual ICW post style markers which is nice as many are not lighted.

If you are looking for a nice radar from JRC, the new 3300 series that is coming out soon is really nice. Its got the same properties as the larger radars, just not as much processing power. But with just normal use and not commercial needs, its a perfect radar.
