ICOM IC-802 won't turn off

My ICOM IC-802 won't turn off.
The Radio has only been installed a few months and I was reading the manual & trying to set-up user channel details. Then the whole unit froze? No keys on the remote unit are functioning, but the light is on & frequency etc is being displayed. Volume does nothing - set is quiet. The Power key did nothing
In desperation I pulled the power cable & plugged the cable back in. Everything then worked fine for a few minutes before it froze again.
Any ideas on how to fix, or what I'm doing wrong.
I haven't used a SSB before - just reading the manual 7 viewing a few youtube videos to work things out!

Have not seen this, but try

- first remove all power
- check all connections, make sure all are in properly (take off then put back on
- restore power

You might want to see if there is a factory reset on it some place. Be sure to write down your MMSI if you do not have it documented nearby.


Could the unit have been damaged from electrical storm, or maybe static buildup inside cabin?

Is there something NOT plugged in that SHOULD be plugged in?
