Dream Mobile Phone Terminal

Read and drool:

Deltenna WiBE HS21 PRO 3G router with Wi-Fi

The phone radio is in the unit (just like a Bullet) so no cable attenuation problems. But here is the damnedest thing -- it has a rotating directional antenna -- wow!!!!!

If I had not just blown a couple hundred bucks on LMR400 cable and Type N connectors, and previous to that more than a hundred on an antenna, all to serve my Globesurfer III mobile phone terminal (which I have been using for three years without any external antenna at all, with great results), I would be seriously tempted. But now at the end of my refit, with my budget thoroughly blown, I will have to pass . . . .

I like it. Of course, "honey, can you crank me up to the top of the mast so I can change the SIM card" might not be a favorite That might be a bigger hurdle to overcome than contracts.

One reason why I would install it on the lowest spreader, not at the masthead. But in any case, it would not be practical to frequently change accounts, so you would practically be limited to one account.

Still, I like this so much that I aborted my antenna installation for my Globesurfer. Instead, I will pull Ethernet up there, seal it off, and leave it. When my finances recover a little from the bashing they got from my refit, I'll buy one of these and put it up there. This looks like a totally superior solution. Maybe by then the price will have come down a bit.

It's a pity they didn't add a remote SIM interface

Well, it's not the end of the world. How often do you really need to change SIMs?

I have installed a mount for this device and tomorrow I'm going to pull a cat 5 cable to it. I hope pretty soon I will recover from the cash hemorrhage my refit turned into, so that I can acquire this lovely toy.

Depends of course on how often you move around. I currently keep about 5 diff SIMs in a little zip lock bag.
