Bottom mod.. 23 Dec 2000 IC-718 TX 1.8 - 30 MHz

Do that and you will be able to use your 718 on the marine bands in an emergency.

Note that the 718 (at least the one I have) will drol tx power if voltage is below 13.8 volts. That means you need engine on or some nifty gadget somewhere.

We used our 718 (clipped) for almost 6 years with the A4 tuner and a pactor modem. No problems. No salt air issues, no low voltage issues. Was a great set up across the Pacific. We both had our HAM licenses and used winlink for free email and weather for those years (not sailmail).
