What boats have you owned?

In my case I have owned the following
1. $200 - Flying Junior - 14 ft open day sailor.
2. $900 - Venture 17 ft - small crawl space cabin great for an overnight.
3. $2,000 - Yankee 24 seahorse - nice bigger cabin.
4. $1,600 - Kingfisher 20ft - twin keel sailboat that can cross oceans.
5. $500 - Alacrity 19th - smaller twin keel can not cross oceans.
6. $4,000 - Watkins 27 - coastal cruiser with a big cockpit.

At the time each of these boat fit my needs and budget.

Re: What boats have you owned?

1. 1970 Newport 41 built by Lindsey -had a 75hp universal gas jeep engine a nightmare, rest boat built like a bad RV. 2. 1965 wood Garden 35 ketch built in Japan . Had it 21 years ,very repairable.3. Island Packet 44 1996 year -I rebuilt it after it was sunk and dismasted at prior owners dock by Hurricane Charley . Made it like new ,sailded it for 2 years and sold it well. ...4. 1977 Gulfstar sloop--good riddance.5. Wood replica ketch of Chesapeake oyster 'buy boat' by Gilmer-- hilarious .6. Fuji 35 with 55 hp yanmar----looks do lie.7. Woods design 36 catamaran --I will try anything. 8. 35 Marine Trader Trawler ( Im really not into non sailing. 9.Brewer 42 cutter . I even fixed the missing Centerboard!!!10. 34ft M105 Catamaran-- very flimsy with noisy hulls even at dock. 11. Beneteau 41S5 sloop , its been 2 years part time to get her done!!! Im now 85 yo and planning trip to KW soon. LOLOLOL Anyone else herehave 11 boats in 50+ years???

Re: What boats have you owned?

1. Catalina 30, $12000

2. Catalina 36, $45000

3. CSY 44, $80000

4. Californian 42, $65000

5. Californian 52, $190000

I loved each of them for different reasons. The Catalinas were easy to single hand and day sail. The CSY brought me to Mexico and the Sea of Cortez. The two motor boats were a result of my wife not liking the sailboats anymore. Although I miss my CSY, the Californian 52 is very comfortable.

Cheers, Bill

Re: What boats have you owned?

Mirage 35

Although I learned to sail in my twenties and touched on it at various intensities after that, life decided that I wouldn't own a boat until after retirement. So this is our first (and probably our last) boat.

Because she suits us very well and meets all of our requirements. She's sleeping for the winter so I can admit that I sometimes get "cockpit envy" when looking at the layout of newer boats, and she doesn't have all the mod-cons. But I love the lines and the classic interior and the feel.

And the surveyor who just checked for insurance purposes, while looking at the hull, deck, and structure in general, kept saying "Don't ever sell this boat, it will last as long as you want to sail it".

When you have one you appreciate this much, why look for another? (Same comment applies to my life and sailing partner.)
