Politics. Or Not please

Lately I have noticed a trend on CF that many threads turn into little flame wars about politics or there are snide comments about people’s beliefs, attitudes or political positions.

I hate to be accusatory however in this case I will. Many of these comments come from residents of the USA.

I respect your right to political positions but the forum is about the Cruising life. Respectfully, I request your comments be kept to appropriate political forums.

Those of us not living in the USA are truthfully not interested in the battle between the Democrats and the a Republicans.

Thank you for your consideration in this matter

While I tend to agree with the intent.......Best of luck dictating what other people post.

Re: Politics. Or Not please

Thanks for your snide comments about US residents.. I like how you specifically call them out (even though you apparently hate yourself for it). It must have taken real will power to over come your hatred of being accusatory and to single out one group of people.

I, for one, applaud your herculean efforts. Hats off to you. May we all be so strong going forward.

YES! PLEASE!

Many (most!) of us, U.S. citizens, prefer a respite of political hostilities here on CF also.

One of the best parts of cruising, to me, is not tuning into the 24hr news cycle!

If we could just talk about religion then we would all get along.

Rallyman, a quote from one of your posts

"11 pages of this nonsense from Mr Swain and all I see is the ramblings of a left wing conspiracy theorist. And I thought all the conspiracy nuts were right wing crazies!"

I haven't watched the US news in over four years, so yes it does bother me when people like to inject their political views into just about every discussion.

Re: Politics. Or Not please

This thread will be closed quickly, but I think there is a broader question that I would love to discuss here.

It is a fact that many threads segue off into non-cruising discussions. Many of these veer into political areas. And the fact is, this forum is dominated by Americans. So, it’s natural American politics will rise to the top.

Forums are a reflection of real life. As with real life, discussions may start on one point, but will naturally flow into other areas, including (at times) politics.

People come here because they are cruisers, or have an interest in cruising. But that is not ALL that we are as people. We create community here, and naturally want to discuss topics with the people we call acquaintances, if not friends.

I find the hard line CF sometimes takes on quashing other discussions distasteful and unfortunate. And in the case of difficult discussions, I think it actually leads to more conflict b/c it doesn’t allow the community to moderate itself.

Re: Politics. Or Not please

Dang! We can't talk about politics, religion, climate change or even what's the best anchor to use. :-(

Maybe there need to be specific forums here for those topics where those who like to argue until they are blue in the face can call each other names and make snide comments to their heart's content, and the rest of us don't have to see it.
