Myrtle Beach to Charleston on ICW

I have a 20 ft pontoon with a 60hp motor on it and am wondering how hard and long it would take. Any tips or tricks? Thanks

Easy trip, several likely stops along the way. Georgetown, McClellanville, Isle of Palms, etc. It's shallow enough southward from McClellanvile then again near Isle of Palms that some need to travel on higher tides... but you likely don't draw enough to worry about it, and even with your outboard should be able to finesse all that with your trim control.

Any idea on roughly how long it will take. Already planning on having to stop for fuel and bathroom breaks

Can't say, since it depends on speed and desired comfort, stop-offs, etc. We purposely spread that part of our last trip over 3 actual travel days (with sightseeing breaks in between): Myrtle Beach to Georgetown, Georgetown to McClellanville, McC to Charleston. From memory, each of those legs was between 4-6 hours, mostly at about 8 kts except for Charleston Harbor.

You can actually go faster for much of it if you like, so you can do your math depending on target speeds...

North Myrtle Beach to Charleston is about 120 Statute miles on the ICW. The Waccamaw River between Myrtle Beach and Georgetown is one of the prettiest stretches of the ICW. You can take a side trip to Conway if you turn off the river at Enterprise Landing. A little farther down the Waccamaw Bucksport Plantation Marina and RV park has reasonable dockage and an on site restaurant. Georgetown had nice floating and free day docks and dinghy docks, and several marinas and restaurants. Isle of Palms marina is a nice stop with a great restaurant and ship's store. Watch the weather south of Georgetown to the Estherville/Minim Creek Canal. Winyah Bay can get windy and rough. Recommend a daylight transit here.

It's a nice trip. The Waccamaw River is beautiful south of Myrtle Beach. If you are interested, stop at Georgetown and see the old town and Hobcaw Barony. Isle of Palms is nice, and there's a lot of wildlife viewing between Pee Dee River and Isle of Palms. Speed depends on your speed and tides.

That's such a short trip. If gas is a consideration use some jerry cans and a 5gal. bucket as a head, with s plastic bag inside. If you need gas, last I knew Georgetown would be your best bet until the Isle of Palms.

With a Pontoon motor boat it can easyly done in one day, starting soon in morning. But sight seeing opportunity would be lost.
