Hurricane in Caribbean

Hi, Newly enrolled today and want to ask where people and their boats have weathered Caribbean Hurricane season? I am looking at a few months stay either in St Vincent and the Grenadines (first preferred choice) or Barbados before possibly returning to Montserrat and surrounding Islands.

I have lived on the Island of Montserrat for the past 4 years (Loved it), and now have the means to live a dream of mine and cruise/sail/motor the Caribbean (or further afield if I decide). As a mature new owner of a rather large older yacht, I am now wanting to gain some further advice as to where people have stayed and enjoyed on the cusp/outer edge of the hurricane belt.

Please feel free to offer all positive remarks and big me up on my new life adventure. Wanting to travel within the next week(ish)

I have a boat Dog (Possibly taking two). My Son is my Captain for the journey from Montserrat to ????? and then we are on our own (Yippee)

People and boats end up all over the place for hurricane season, but if you want out of hurricane strike zone for the season then Colombia, Panama, or Rio Dulce, Guatemala in the W Carib are hurricane free (well almost, Panama has had one landfall in recorded history). In the E Carib, Grenada & Trinidad are popular (where hurricanes are rare).

Many keep their boat in Grenada. We have stayed in Chaguaramos, Trinidad for th last two summers.

We are at Grenada Marine, had to pay a small premium for our insurance to cover us there. We are hauled out. But yard, allow DIY, many services available, but somewhat remote from town.

If you can get on Active Captain there are many reviews. It’s a useful tool. I access it through AquaMap.

Preferably away from the Caribbean and the boat in a land hole, on an island with fewest thieves.

I was told gtenada marine does NOT allow diy.... u gotta use their guys

These two yards are side by side in Chaguaramos, Trinidad. Great community and services. 24 hr security patrols, fenced, gate is manned 24 hours. Lots of tours and activities.

Totally out of the hurricane zone, 8 degrees north
