CONTACT PROBLEMS WITH LOFRANS TIGRES 1500

THIS IS THE SITUATION:

OUR LOFRANS TIGRES 1500 DOESNT WORK PROPERLY AND IS NOT TRUSTWORTHY ANYMORE. DURING LAST ANCHORINGS WE ALWAYS HAD TO HIT THE MOTOR WITH A HAMMER. THEN IT WORKED UNTIL THE NEXT STOP OF THE REMOTE CONTROL. WE CLEANED THE MOTOR. WE INSTALLED NEW BRUSHES. WE INSTALLED A NEW SOLENOID. WE CHANGED THE OIL. WE BOUGHT A NEW REMOTE. WE CHECKED CURRENTS (ALSO OF THE OLD REMOTE). NO CHANGES. NOTHING WORKS.
SO WE THINK THE MOTOR IS DEFECT AFTER 15 YEARS (6 IN CHARTER BUSINESS).
HOW CAN WE FIX THE MOTOR? IS IST WORTH TO BUY JUST THE SOLENOID BETWEEN THE BRUSHES? OR A COMPLETE MOTOR ( ONLY €885)
SUGGESTIONS ARE DEEPLY APPRECIATED SPECIALLY INFOS ON WHERE TO FIX THE MOTOR (COMPLETELY), GET A NEW OR USED ONE. WE ARE IN BEQUIA ON OUR WAY TO MARTINIQUE.

THANKS AND KIND REGARDS
ALEX

Re: CONTACT PROBLEMS WITH LOFRANS TIGRES 1500

You might try contacting Imtra.com in Florida. They are the Lofrans distributor in the US. I have heard that they are very good at answering questions and giving help. I loved my old Tigres.....

Viel gluck.

+1 on contacting Lofran, I had a problem with my Progress 2 and they were very helpful in solving it.

Re: CONTACT PROBLEMS WITH LOFRANS TIGRES 1500

First I'd test the motor and solenoid pack separately.

Test the motor alone with a booster pack or a battery with jump leads - touch leads on the motor terminals direct, no solenoids or switches.

Multimeter on continuity will determine field & armature terminals if it's a 3 or 4 terminal motor.

If it doesn't run clean the commutator back to bright metal when replacing brushes. Maybe you did that but you didn't say.

Also clean out the segment separators & re-cut them if they need it, ie. if they're sticking up above the commutator segments.

If new brushes have square ends I'll often trim them to fit the commutator better at first starting.

If you're unsure of your wiring there are some diagrams in Lofrans online manuals for connecting their vertical winches with 2, 3 or 4 terminal motors.
Should help.

If motor runs OK wired direct then check solenoid wiring & remote - you don't say if it's a wired or wireless remote?

What "solenoid between the brushes?"
You said you replaced the solenoid - standard Lofrans is a reversing solenoid - that's two solenoids in a plastic housing.

Re: CONTACT PROBLEMS WITH LOFRANS TIGRES 1500

Sorry, just figured it out I think - did you mean armature "between the brushes" not solenoid?
I'd suggest having a specialist test the armature on a growler before considering replacing it "on spec."
Your first comment about hitting it with a hammer to make it work is strongly suggestive of a bad contact.
Pretty sure a reasonably professional auto electrician could find the fault in half an hour.
I think you may have missed something.
