Good god atoll. The preventive measures clearly aren't enough.

Lock sicky in his cabin

Run a yellow flag

And burn the ship down to the waterline.

Me thinks

That should be a yellow and black flag "L" - "The ship is quarantined".

You fly the yellow flag "Q" to say that your boat is healthy and you are requesting "pratique" i.e permission to come ashore.

Re: Ebola Fears in the Canary Islands

I looked up the travel advisory's on the state dept. web site, so far none for the west coast of Africa, but that was yesterday. The head of Samaritan's purse testified in DC yesterday that he believes that the virus has already gone viral. Meaning it has already escaped west Africa and is now spreading to a country near you. FUBAR.

The US CDC urges all US residents to avoid nonessential travel to Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone because of an unprecedented outbreak of Ebola.

The Public Health Agency of Canada recommends that:
Canadians avoid all non-essential travel to Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone due to the ongoing Ebola virus outbreak.

Re: Ebola Fears in the Canary Islands

Sometimes it's hard to determine if the Governments are helping or hurting:
Feds Bend CDC Rules for Sick Illegal Immigrants

I think a good idea is to limit ones exposure to crowds as much as possible. Not just because of the chance of Ebola which I think still has a low chance of infection at least here in the U.S. But, because other more communicable diseases like Tuberculosis. Personally, I don't understand why people still go to movie theaters. Where people sit for an hour and a half in a roomful of strangers any one of which could have some communicable disease sounds like a recipe for disaster. Not to mention overpaying for the popcorn! With today's technology of DVD's or steaming video one can be just as entertained without the risk of contacting a communicable disease while being nice and cozy in the cabin.

Details of the Good Samaratan people testifying. This is very sobering:

Ebola Crisis in West Africa
a very sobering testimony, and spot on about western aid, being too little and too late.

the other pertinant point he raised about there being a "spike" in about 3 weeks in multiple countries is probably un-avoidable now.

donations of personal protection gear, cash or both to the people on the ground will go a long way to stemming the spread.

so i would urge members involved in charity work to raise the issue this weekend with their relevant groups, and not rely solely on intergovernmental agencies.

Re: Ebola Fears in the Canary Islands

That would be about right for the incubation period. It will probably be a snowball effect.

Re: Ebola Fears in the Canary Islands

Local Atlanta update, not sure what we would expect him to say: Ebola patient says he is “getting stronger” | www.ajc.com

Would be shocked if we have a cure, being that polio was the last cure the world has produced. Pessimistic side says there is much more money in treating than curing. Optimistic side says I'm ignorant. Yes, the article makes no mention of cure, but if he is improving when others have died, is he on borrowed time or something else we are not aware of? Maybe it's just be properly hydrated
