I don't understand how people can dump plastic articles in the ocean. It is thoughtless and senseless.

...again...thanx for the post Target. I know at one time barges simply dumped garbage off-shore. Not sure if that is still practiced.

Humans do the same thing to themselves. You only have to look at the slums in Mombai, Mexico City and most first world countries to realise humans have little concious awareness of cause and effect.
I worked on a fruit farm one summer and we had 200 workers cutting rhubarb. When they wanted to take a dump, they would walk 5 yards ahead into the leaves and squat, and within 30 minutes, they would be stepping in it.

Its not only Albatros which are suffering. Turtles swallow plastic bags after mistaking them for jellyfish. Phenols in plastics mimic reproduction hormones and cause mutations and infertility
