Navigation Microchips for Garmin

I have purchased a Garmin GPSMAP 60Cx for a backup nav system to my RayMarine chartplotter. I would like to download charts/nav system for the southeast Caribbean into this handheld Garmin and not sure of my options.

The Garmin G2 Vision chip is expensive and I don't know anything of its quality. Apparently on my 60Cx, I can download maps from my computer which strikes me as a lot more affordable for this backup device. But if that is my best option, what system should I look at to download onto my laptop for transmittal to the Garmin handheld.

I`d sure appreciate some experienced advice in this regard.
Thank you in advance.

the 320 dollar vision chips are easier to find than the 125 earlier ones for which i seek for my 498 garmin on board.
garmin has 'em and so does west marine and ebay does occasionally.

Re: Navigation Microchips for Garmin

These are the Garmin proprietary chips that fit in the 178-478 and the plotters up through the 30XX series. Their designation is MU not VU. They are not the SD cards that the 40XX and up series of plotters take.

I'm not familiar with the 498 plotter but if it doesn't fit an SD card it needs these chips.
