How to Read cm93 Charts Depth Soundings

I have trouble understanding why some dept soundings are black and very visible, and some are transparent on CM93 charts. Experience this with both maxsea with cm93 ed3 and OpenCPN with ed2. Anyone who can explain?

While I am not familiar with either product, do they by any chance have a "depth contour" set by a user? If so - perhaps lighter soundings are those that are deeper and darker - shallower?

Good suggestion but no. That can't be right from what I can see.

The answer is in the OpenCpn wiki
Vector Chart Display | Official OpenCPN Homepage

"(If the) "Safety Depth" (value in the Toolbox) is set to (e.g.) 20 m, (then) all soundings greater than 20 (m) are gray, while those less than 20 are black.

In this screenshot, my safety depth (darker line) is set to 5 m

Thanks.

Great, this is usefull. I just experienced a couple of places where it was dark blue color and grey numbers. hard to see. But now I can adjust and know why.

Sounds like it is a depth contour after all.
