Garmin GPSMAP 78sc; Blue Charts Australia

Hi,
I'm looking at buying the Garmin GPSMAP 78sc hand held as a back up.

My question is; What are the blue charts like for Australia along the Great barrier reef & as well as the whole of the East Coast, how detailed are they. Do you recommend these charts? Has anybody used this gps before with Blue charts G2? I'm looking for some useful information before i buy. Or should I be looking at another type of hand held gps chart plotter. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Ps I do have all the charts in paper & i am only looking for a back up gps.
Curiosity is why I'm posting & to get some feed back.
Cheers.

Re: Garmin GPSMAP 78sc; Blue Charts Australia

Blue charts for Oz are most usefull .if you have the paper i would say the blue charts are not as good.i just got through pricing out exactly the same deal and whitworths back home with the oz charts installed was $50 bucks more than the best price for USA loaded 78sc.Shows how the USA is getting screwed like the rest of us.What makes it a better option for me is the compass and handshake capability with charts i have on a laptop.Certainly blue charts are overpriced as an individual puchase.Copy your paper charts and sell them on you will have more readies to play with whatever you decide.

Thanks Anthony for the information. I have decided ill buy a mounted gps plotter for the price, still deciding whether to go Garmin or Lowrance. What has the better charts? They are both around the same price.
