Fishing Rod depth sounder

Has anyone used one of these?

It's meant as a fish finder but I like the idea for a gunk holing depth sounder (or to look for deep water when - not if - I run aground). You cast the radio transducer with your fishing rod. It's supposed to transmits back up to 150 feet to a wrist watch display. About $75.

The model is the Humminbird RF35

With my luck it would get hung up on the first cast and I'd be out $75 and probably aground.

I should think a lead line would work as well. I can see myself get so involved with the tech toy that would neglect piloting.

I have heard of someone mounting it to a RC boat so it could be moved around exactly where you want it.

There is also a company that makes a RC boat remote depth finder for about $200.

I can see a use for it, but it might be seldom. Usually you know where the good water is. Right on your stern where you came in...

But for that price, couldn't hurt. Might save you some day... And besides, it's a cool geeky toy.
