eCharts for SW Caribbean?

Hi everyone, I'm kind of new to the forum and sailing in general. My wife and I just traded our condo for a 43 ft FP Belize, we moved her from Deerfeild Beach FL to Port Aransas TX, where we will spend the next few months outfitting, provisioning and learning everything we can before we set off for a year or two following the coast to Brasil and then Island hop back up through the islands.

My question is regarding SeaClear (or other software) and Charts for the area that we are going to cruise. Mainly the coastal regions from Cancun to Fortelaza Brasil. I haven't really run across much in the way of charts for this area...

What are the options for electronic charts for this area? Are they compatible with SeaClear

Cheers all, looking forward to "Living the Life"

I recently picked up this link for Seaclear compatible charts off one of the sailing forums.

EVC - Foremost source for maps, satellite imagery and GIS data.

Limited Charts

I just finished a cruise north from Cartagena, Colombia to Wilmington, NC. The trip finished a four-year circle around the Caribbean Sea.

Charts for the region are available, but are not detailed. Cruising guides and cruiser's personal notes and waypoints provided the most useful information. Many of the charts for the area include notes that say, "based on British Admiralty Survey from 1837." Truly, the charts have not been updated since then, only digitized.

You will have to keep your eyes open at all times on this trip. Areas like the Mosquito Coast of Nicaragua have shoals and reefs as far as 50 miles offshore.

I will try to post a folder of cruising info on our website--www.theforters.com.

Good Sailing,
Dan Forter
