DIY $100 Chartplotter presentation

This seemed like the most appropriate group to post this in. The author, Andy Barrow, has a BSEE - Communications (retired) and moved to IT mid-career.
Ham License - 47 years and Electronics / Computer Hobbyist.

This is a powerpoint presentation but you can download it in a number of different formats.

Re: DIY $100 Chartplotter presentation

Nice.

There is still the problem that laptops, tablets, smartphones, and all of the inexpensive monitors out there are WAAAAY less readable in direct sunlight than even the cheapest of dedicated chartplotters (or they are "tough" versions that cost demasiado dinero). I wish that there was somewhere that I could buy a truly daylight readable monitor (touch screen would be nice, but I could live without that), in the 7"-10" range, for less than $150. Unfortunately, I have looked, and not found anything like this.

(And, as every time before when I have brought this up, I am sure that several people will provide links to such things, but when I follow up I will find that the monitors are not actually daylight readable, or they are only for sale on a wholesale basis, or they will not ship to the United States, or something else like that!)
