Re: Crusing plan

Head downriver 'till the Potomac empties into the Chesapeake Bay at Pt. Lookout. Turn left and head up the bay until you see Annapolis on your left. If you pass under the Bay Bridge, you went too far.

(Okay, I KNOW you're looking for more detail than this. I can't help with that, but I just couldn't resist...enjoy the trip!)

Re: Crusing plan

Don's got it right! Are you looking for suggested places to visit along the way? You used to be able to tie up at the dock at Mt. Vernon and visit for the day. Not sure if you still can.
For a taste of the bay as it once was, you can visit Tangier Island - VERy shallow so mind the marks! Oxford's a great little town without all of the boutiques of St. Michael's. The Wye river is a wonderful secluded spot. The South River on the western shore is just south of Annapolis. You can anchor off Quiet Waters Park, land a dinghy, have a great shore walk, visit Fawcett's & West Marine. Or come around to Annapolis. They're filling up the anchorage on Spa Creek with moorings. You have to go way up the creek to anchor. Back Creek is anchorable and full of boats! In the city of every street ending at the water is public access. Enjoy!
