Alligator River Swing Bridge Closure

For southbound cruisers, the Alligator River Swing Bridge is closed until further notice because of high winds. It will operate on the regular schedule as soon as the winds subside. Coast Guard is making announcements over the VHF. Chuck

Re: Alligator River Swing Bridge Closure

You heading south, Chuck? It was a wee bit chilly here in Brunswick this morning. We're already wanting to head south ourselves....

Thanks for the notice. I'm sure other cruisers appreciate your info.

Ralph, We're moving south very slowly. Currently at the Welcome Center in the Dismal Swamp. The weather has been the pits since yesterday. We'll head for Elizabeth City tomorrow, if it looks better. Chuck

Yup, we are here in Coinjock, winds are whipping. Probably head down to Buck Island and wait for the wind to subside.

Re: Alligator River Swing Bridge Closure

Bridge was opening on schedule earlier but recent wind report of 25 knots gusting to 33. They may not be opening for a while, but who wants to be out in those winds anyway. Chuck
