Large Yacht Mooring Requrements

I run a non-profit in the Turks & Caicos Islands and one of our projects is the installation and maintenance of dive and snorkel boat moorings around the islands. I understand what is needed for those, but I have been asked now by the local Department of Environment and Maritime Affairs to spec out mooring requirement for large vessels in designated anchorage areas within the Marine Protected Areas. This is the result of two large yachts (one 150 ft. and the other 115 ft) dragging anchors within the last three weeks and destroying large swaths of coral. So, this is a bit out of my league. My thought (and theirs) is to use a single Helix Screw anchor (either 8 ft or 12 ft) with 1" chain to the surface buoy and 2" polypropylene line for the pickup line. Does this make sense or are we way off base?

Thanks.

I use a single screw for a 18 tonne boat. If I were to set up the screws for large yachts I would put three in a triangle chain from each to a swivel then your rode to the boat

Re: Large Yacht Mooring Requrements

Here you go from an article about large yacht moorings in the Virgin Islands Park on St John.

If you contact the friends of the park I bet they would give you specs on the moorings.
