Swan Neck?

I'm going to be pulling our deck-stepped main mast for re-rigging and I'm considering changing from five individual deck wire entry fittings to a single swan neck for all five cables. None of the existing deck entry fittings leak but it does seem a little 'inefficient' to have that many. Is one big hole better than five smaller ones? Does anyone have any experience, good or bad, with a swan neck?

Fair winds and calm seas.

Re: Swan Neck?

Since the current set-up has small holes and doesn't leak, plus it works properly, I would not change it.

Re: Swan Neck?

Hey Neil - I did that on our last boat, HR 352. One of the deck glands leaked a little, I needed to add a mast wire and couldn't without adding another (or larger) gland, and the wires/glands looked sloppy. The swan neck worked very well. Jamie
