Looking for Stem Head Fitting Advice

Hey!

Our small poor boat had some abuse from previous owner, i guess, so this is what we've got here..

What would be the best way to solve it?

Ask someone to make a copy of this part (stem head fitting)? Try fixing this one? Try to find something simmilar in chandleries? (tried already, no luck..)

How do I replace this part then?

I have very limited experience fixing stuff myself, but then again, this is one of the things i _must_ learn..

Any decent stainless shop should be able to make a new one for you.

saw your post and the guy who said any decent fabricator could make you a copy is right. However, this is your opportunity to improve on it. Just copy the 'footprint' of the old fitting including the tang that goes down the stem and all the holes, but make it heftier and add anchor rollers, etc. that improve on the original. I used to do this for customers all the time on stock production boats such as Hunters and it is a piece of cake to do and will add to the business-like looks of your boat. Just a suggestion. The actual fitting looks OK. I saw no cracked welds. Take the rig down and remove it. Most likely the backing plate is toast. Clean it up real good, make a hefty backing plate, and bolt together with lots of sealant (NOT 5200). Maybe 4200..
