Electric Winch Handle

Hi All

Anybody use one of these rechargeable winch handles ?

Are they any good ?

If you mean the WinchRite I knew a few people who have used them, and all of them have had troubles with reliability. I think all of them have pitched them and bought 28v heavy duty angle drills and winch bits.

My wife uses our winchrite to haul us up the mast and then on our in-mast furling for our main and mizzen. The first generaton units had bugs to work out, but they have upgraded their gear box and motor for the unit units and we have been happy with ours. The problem with the drill buddy or simular device is that the RPM of the drill isn't matched for the low end torque of the winch applcation so it sucks the battery down quickly and then when you try to use the drill in reverse for a two speed winch I've seen the chuck losen up.

I use our Winchrite all the time, mostly to raise the main. Had some issues which the company took care of right away. Good product and good people. Not super heavey duty for sheet winches in heavey air.

I have used the Winchrite for a few years now and it's GREAT. I wouldn't leave the dock without it.

We originally bought our Winchrite from the US as there wasn't a distributor in Aus.( 4 years ago). We used it on our trailersailors for main and sheets and it was great and we didnt need the extra weight of a built in electric winch. We now use it on our Semi-Trailersailor and its great for raising the main and for the Admiral when sheeting.
We do sometimes forget to put it back on charge and after a few days of sailing it goes flat but stores for ages on a full charge.
