Yes, I have Barient winches! And when I need parts I go to Arco-Hutton (Australian Winch Company) in Sydney, Aust. They have the real thing so I have never tried the LEwmar bits.

Cheers,

Jim

Lewmar springs work with Barlow winches, I know that, but their pawls work less well.

I second the advice to go directly to Arco-Hutton and not to experiment with Lewmar stuff...unless it's just a pawl spring.

Both Barient and Barlow were quality gear: I just serviced my 40 year old Barlow 26 sheet and halyard winches and they are still in great shape.

Re: Barient 17 , 24 ratchet pawls & springs

Thank you for the info,

I have just stripped, cleaned, rebuilt & lubricated my Barients 1x Barient 10 , 2x barient 17s & 2x Barient 24s, Despite their age and some neglect by the previous owner they are in great shape.

I like to have spares for all my kit on board & that is what prompted the query about the pawls. I have found hutton-arco and they have been very helpful by sending me documentation about by barients. The only reason I was looking a lewmar pawls is that they are readily available locally. Hutton's prices are very reasonable but shipping them from Australia to Malta will cost more than the pawls :-( But I guess you are right best get the original stuff.

Regards
Patrick
