Manual Bilge Pump Strainer

I have a manual bilge pump installed and have had a problem with it getting clogged by an old zip tie that found its way into the bilge. I didn't have the space for the large bilge pump strainers being marketed today, so I created my own. I used a strainer from a fishing boat baitwell. You know the type. It has a stainless steel mesh in a semicircle shape about 1- 3/4" dia. and molded into a plastic housing with female pipe threads for attachment. I found the proper size PVC hose barb and voila! It works great and cost total about $10.00. Hope you Guys/Gals can use this idea.

I also rigged a PVC elbow to the inlet hose/pipe/tube to the bilge pump and then covered the opening with household plastic insect screen material. It keeps debris from being sucked into the pick up hose/pipe/tube.

This is what I started with-an ordinary bait box strainer. As I mentioned, I attached a PVC hose barb that attached to my bilge hose.
