Not sure if this is the right place for this post.

I sourced a Dickenson heater today, it's Used, pics are of a clean brass colored heater, with a glass front. My concern is poking a hole in my roof/deck. " another hole for sea water to get in".

Is the Dickerson brand a reliable unit, thoughts on purchasing used. And is 500.00 to much? It's a obo, kinda thing.

Are their other choices, and other brands to review.

We installed a Dickerson Newport Diesel 12 years ago, still going strong. Only maintenance is periodically vacuum the pot and once a year clean the flue. Every couple of years we replace the stone filter. Key once running is a fan near it to disperse the heat or you end up with a heat island

Search the forum. Refleks is the top brand.... and I happen to have a new one for sale, but it's $850 ($1650 on any other site).

You guys won't be needing that for high latitude sailing when Daze Off is ready to go?

Unfortunately, it's too large a unit for us. We're installing a Wabasto forced air and a smaller Refleks....once I sell this brand new 60mk. I was planning on waiting until the season to list it, but thought I'd post it now before it gets buried in our storage unit.

Oh that stinks, a good price for anyone in the market. We are a year or two from high latitude sailing but I think your heater would be too big for us as well. Good luck with the sale either way, Matt.

It's actually the physical size that's the issue for us on our boat. I need another inch or two for the 90 degree elbow of the exhaust from the compression post. It's the model size that was recommended by a few old timers for where we plan to over winter.... I guess we'll see if we freeze with the lower btus.

What comes with besides the heater itself? And of course, pics would help.

Dirk, it would help to know what kind of a boat you have.

If it is a liner-built boat, the installation will be trickier than if it is solid grp, or timber.

We have a s/s Dickenson copy, a FabAll. Have a fan above it to help circulate the warm air. If we had space, a Webasto, with the forced air, would really be a lovely luxury.

It is normal to be afraid of sawing big round holes in your deck. We avoided the second hole by installing a small computer fan to create a constant positive airflow, so it doesn't extinguish in downdrafts.
