Re: Flushing sea water pump with Muriatic acid

[QUOTE=Chip_MX;2808869.
This time we want to flush our sea water strainer up through the March sea water pump and hose to HVAC and the out to the bucket.
[/QUOTE]

why?

The reason the air conditioning heat exchanger gets deposits is because it is warm, which increases scaling. But your pump isn't hot enough really to make a difference in LSI to cause scaling.

Re: Flushing sea water pump with Muriatic acid

We use muriatic acid to flush out the head plumbing. It works great to keep down the crust buildup and has given us no problems for several years.

I've brought the question up to Practical Sailor Magazine in the hopes they will undertake the investigation and provide some findings and recommendations.

When we have had low flow through our AC raw water system, and then flushed with Barnacle Buster... we watched some goop come out the discharges, and flow visibly improved.

When I flushed our genset heat exchanger once with Rydlyme, the borescope showed great improvement, essentially all clean.
