Re: Diesel heater fuel pump placement

Sailor JOJO , I understand that is not quite important where you take the diesel .The importante is the pump must be below the Heater at not too much distance .
Some sailor suggest 45 degrees of inclination of the pump respect to heater respect the heater. In this case the bubbles going to be accumulated in the pump and it easy to purge the bubbles.

Please check if you understand the same .English it no my native language too

regards

I appreciate your reply my friend. I think we understand it the same way.

In the coming 1-2 weeks I'm gonna install the system as described and I'm gonna try to take pictures and document the process as close as possible.

Re: Diesel heater fuel pump placement

Sorry .Going to be accumulated in the heater and not in the pump .This tiny bubbles are incapable to produce problems in the heater and rapidly the line going to be without bubbles

I also found a 24 mm to 28 mm exaust 90 degree bend adapter at my local boat shop, so that should be solved for the install at least.

Re: Diesel heater fuel pump placement

To be clear. When you mount the pump the fuel INTAKE is LOWER than the fuel output going to the heater. My pump is located about 1 meter below the heater.

Re: Diesel heater fuel pump placement

I too was concerned re the proximity of the fuel hose to the exhaust so I placed two 4 inch pieces of 2 inch wide aluminum tape on either side of the fuel line where if is closest to the exhaust. This creates a two inch "wing" on either side of the fuel line to dissipate excess heat.

Re: Diesel heater fuel pump placement

Today my diesel heater stopped working. The pump ticks kind of fast I think, maybe 3 times per second. I noticed the fuel pump had drained the fuel filter halfway and was not filling, and the fuel line from the tank was empty.

Also, the heater doesn't output very hot air. I have the heater installed in a lazaret locker so it's intake air is always cold. It doesn't recycle the already heated air. But these things are supposed to be very hot I thought. I am really stumped and have to embark on a long trip in a few days. Any thoughts helpful.

I thought maybe I should try re-priming the fuel system.

Also, it smokes a lot of white smoke recently, where when I first installed it, would burn clean.

Re: Diesel heater fuel pump placement

Possibly just an air leak in the fuel lines?

They sure don’t pull a lot of diesel so a small leak would probably produce these results.

Pump does sound a little fast but if it’s pumping air and trying to ignite, maybe it’s at absolute max pumping speed?

Re-prime sounds like a good start though. Nothing bro lose.

If you’re leaving and still unsure if it’ll be 100%, maybe an outboard priming bulb in the line just in case?

Re: Diesel heater fuel pump placement

Whats the purpose of the 2"+/- pieces of black hose at each of the 6 connections along the fuel line supply path?

Why wouldn't the installer just use an A1 rated fuel hose of the appropriate size (usually black in color) for the entire path and save yourself potentially half of the failure points and hose clamps?
It might take about what, about 4' of hose.

White smoke is generally an indication of unburnt fuel going out the exhaust. Could be a number of things including but not limited to, bad pump, bad nozzle, fuel system air leak, or not enough air.
Priming a leaky fuel system rarely solves the problem long term.

Fix the fuel line first, then remove, clean and reseal the filter and try a restart.

If no joy, remove the air filter? on the end of the tan colored hose and retry.

If none of that works your next step is to determine if the pump is working correctly. Do you have any specs on what the pump's output should be?

Oooops, forgot one thing. There is ample fuel in the tank, right?
