We just purchased (escrow closes next week) a 1989 Carver 4207 that has a loose nut on the transmission
end of the port prop shaft. We are taking possession of the boat next week and moving it to a new marina. Assuming that the taper / keyway has not been damaged from the loose nut condition, we are hoping that we can split the coupling open and just tighten the nut on the end of the shaft and avoid having to have the boat hauled out of the water
and the shaft removed. Our boat has Cat 3208's and Twin Disc 507's. We don't have access to the boat now to determine if there is enough room in the engine
compartment to open up the coupling and slide it down the prop shaft far enough to be able to get a socket on the shaft nut to tighten it. I'm hoping that someone with this same model boat knows whether or not there is enough room to do this.
