Re: Hurth Transmission output shaft seal leak

Have finally got a response from the technician ZF Portugal sent me. To replace the HBW 150 V with the new ZF 15 MIV was 4200 euro plus VAT. Delivery time of 8 weeks!!! To rebuild our transmission, 1700 euros plus VAT plus 6 weeks. Took 3 days to get the quote via email. They wanted me to just take the transmission to the shop and wait for a quote. I said no to that obviously. I have 4 weeks left on my Schengen visa. Husband has 6 weeks left. The transmission still works, even though it leaks and the Canaries are listed as a free trade area (at least according to Noonsite) for yachts in transit so I guess we will proceed to the Canaries as soon as we ransom the other engine parts from Customs.

Re: Hurth Transmission output shaft seal leak

My guess is you could ship the transmission to Harbor Marine in the US, have it rebuilt and shipped back to you in less than 3 weeks. I know they rebuild and ship transmissions internationally, having had my tranny rebuilt by them a few months ago. Not sure what it would cost, but likely quite a bit less than European prices. Something to think about...

Re: Hurth Transmission output shaft seal leak

I so feel your pain.

Send the trans to someone in the US that you trust, have them get it fixed and send it back.
