Some parts of the world stopped pressing in bearings more than 10 years ago, they run clearance fit fully composite bearings. With the shaft chocked you can confirm the bearing carrier (P bracket, Strut or Stern tube) alignment. The new bearing can be spun by hand in the carrier.

Removal is also easier as epoxy softens with some heat, just make sure you use low temp epoxy.

Never hit your cutlass or cutless bearing unless you are stranded on an island with no way to get help!

Fisherman Tx has the right idea, short of having a hydraulic press. Don't rush it, you'll be sorry.

Make absolutely sure you don't have a couple of set screws on the side of the strut that have been covered with paint or epoxy or something. ( a quick nudge with a sander will tell you)

Now is the time to do things right, check your engine/shaft coupling alignment.

Also, invest the time and money in a manual, put a bounty on it if you have to. Good hearted folks like me, may tell you something that works for their boat, not yours...

A wise man once said, if you don't have the time and money to do it right now, when you will have the time and money to do it again later(he posts on here I think, man...that guy has sage wisdom...)
