There are natural and synthetic CORK materials sold for decking. Sold in sheets or rolls and you glue them down, just like a rubber antiskid material. Except, cork also is a great insulator, stands up well to wear, and won't reflect a lot of light with the natural cork color.

Gonna cost more than paint, but there you are, insulation and light reduction all in one convenient product that also feels good under your feet and is anti-skid.
