Hi fellow forum goers and sailing enthusiasts.

I've just recently joined the site, but have been an avid sailor for about 12 years now. I finally decided to make an account and post because I have been having quite an issue that I think we as a knowledgeable community can solve.

Recently, I've been having a lot of issues when I try to tie my dock line around a piling as it seems to take too long, especially when it is just be on the boat and I am trying to get safely docked as quickly as possible. In fact, if truth be told, I've hit the broad side of a buoy a couple times (both in the water and out, if you know what I mean!). So I was trying to find a better knot, and I think I have one. It's called a boobijoo, and it's becoming more popular, especially around the Nordic region.

I have found it to be MUCH faster and safer to tie, and it really seems to get the job done. I'm not too ashamed to say that I have gotten myself into a bit of trouble at times for not securely fastening my boat, and ever since I started using this amazing knot, all of my problems have been solved.

Thanks for this post, Capn Pat! The boobijoo worked wonders tying my replica falkusa to the dock post, both starboard and larboard. Discussing this with fellow sailors at the pub made for great tales, especially when we're three sheets to the wind!

I could use a bit more direction on how to actually tie the knot in the quickest way. The first few attempts resulted in a few sheep shanks, then a couple surgeon's knots before I got to the boobijoo. Clearly the rope needs to be red as you illustrated; Poseidon knows the jetsam that I contributed when I tried using a green rope!

What other functions do you think we could use the boobijoo for? I was thinking of using it when I need to parbuckle some barrels of ale from the lower deck of my ship. I also need something more reliable when I tie rope to cans and nuns, so I may put the boobijoo to the test there.

I think it's great that you're reaching out to the sailing community and spreading the word of the boobijoo! Hopefully we can find more uses for it, especially if you can teach us the fastest way to tie a boobijoo. Fair winds and following seas, Capn Pat!

Seems like Capt. Pat and Mcdurdle know each other, but that doesn't mean that the newbies don't need to master this difficult yet fast not.
I have found some instructional videos on youtube, but cannot post the link due to my mediocre post count. Can any low posters post a link?

its tied incorrectly. The loop is upside down and might come loose by other lines.

I can tell you from my load testing, that if it were tied in blue colored line, it would be 13.2% stronger.

I dare to disagree. Red line is obviously more slippery, but only the all red variant. The red with yellow dots is as good as blue one. Of course the blue one with the pink dots is the best, but You mentioned just blue.
