Need Volvo Saildrive Repair Center

We have just crashed one of our sail drives while on the way north through the Dismal Swamp. Need referral to someone to repair the drive in the Norfolk area. I can pull it and deliver to their shop. The two major Volvo service centers, Industrial Diesel and Action Masters are overloaded and getting repairs done will take forever.

If anyone has a recommendation, feel free to post here or send me a PM. I don't have good Internet access in the boat yard so may not be able to get back to thank you right away, so thanks in advance.

George,

I can't help you with your question, but I am curious as to what the accident was. I have a catamaran with Volvo saildrives.

Try Western Branch Diesel in Portsmouth. There is a dock accross the street from them you might be able to tie up to. 757-673-7200 speak with Tim.

Pat, I called Western Branch and they told me they are engines only, not sail drives. If I shipped it to you, would you repair it?

I think the problem is in the upper unit. I have pulled lower props and shaft and everythihng there looks OK but the oil has a metalic (brassy) look. Pure guess but I think it might be the clutch unit and maybe some secondary damage in the upper.

I just want to repair what I have and not pay 5.5k for a new unit from Volvo.

Mark, this unit has occaisionally been reluctant to engage. While motoring, I started getting a clicking sound through the linkage to the helm. When I shut the engine down and restarted she won't go in gear, forward or reverse.

When I say crashed, I don't mean impact damage, the unit just went Tango Uniform. I have no idea on the real hours on the unit. There are about 4000 on the tach but I don't think the instrument panels are original so there could be more.

Input shaft and flywheel output flange splines badly worn. Clutch also damaged. Could have been worse. I rented a car and hauled it to a mechanic I have used in North Carolina. Now it's waiting for parts.

Thus update for thouse who showed and interest.
