Getting from Australia to Vanuatu by boat

Hi there everyone,

This might sound like a strange request, but I wanted to enquire within this community about the possibility of catching a ride on a boat that is going to Vanuatu (Port Vila) from Brisbane (or another eastern city of Australia) in early November (and would be keen to get a ride back at the end of November, with the same or different boat).

Obviously, I would be willing to pay for passage and/or would be happy to serve as crew if desired. It could be a private or commercial boat, but to be clear, I am not looking to charter a boat for that specific purpose, as I am unable to cover the cost of doing so. Not really keen on catching a cruise ship either!

Failing that, I would be very keen to receive any other suggestions about other avenues for doing this.

Many thanks,

Sarah

Your timing looks pretty specific, but if your schedule were to match up with the good folk at Medical Sailing Ministries – Taking medical services to where they are needed most , you could do a lot worse than be a volunteer to help them along. I have no idea when their next mission is, but worth a look.

Cheers, Graeme

If you are lucky enough to get a ride to Vanuatu in November, you’re likely to pass a lot of boats going the other way. Cyclone season starts in December and boats will be running for cover.

I wish you luck - not many sailors will be heading north in November.

Yes, seasons are the key here. Perhaps plan to fly there, as you might find it fairly easy to get a ride back later in November.
