Mexico Cruising

Is there anything good about keeping a boat in Brownsville Texas and cruising to Mexico and farther?

Re: Mexico Cruising

What will you be cruising on to Mexico if your boat is in Texas?

Re: Mexico Cruising

There is everything good. The gulf coast is not super-popular among cruisers, but I knew someone who was writing a cruising guide to it many years ago. Veracruz had a few cruising boats last time I passed through, and as you get to the Yucatan, things get very pleasant. Isla Mujeres is a huge cruiser's destination, Cozumel is not half bad, and Belize is just a little way south.
While the political situation (where you can anchor, where you can't, where you must pay extra, where it's dangerous) is always in flux, especially around Belize, there's no better way to find out that to head down there and see for yourself.

If you like to sail it can be great. We often meet a guy who sails down from that part of Texas every year. If you're willing to go for it, you could be back to the US in a week from Roatan or the Rio Dulce.

Re: Mexico Cruising

Thanks for the info. My boat is in FL and I moved to Colorado. I'm kind of done with the Bahamas. It's a 20 hr drive to Brownsville.

I have an express cruiser, so I'll have to stop for fuel after about 350 miles.
