Size doesn't matter. Schedules do. Having schedules to meet (departing flight, your anniversary, etc) are a part of life but they can become dangerous when sailing, especially w/o mechanical assist,...

Did Miami to Bimini a number of times in 23 - 26' sailboats "back in the day". As boatman61 wrote, make sure the wind is southerly so you don't have the Gulf Stream current going head on into...

Priories change as one ages. I've sailed since I was 12 and will never give it up but now am looking at 80 just a few years away. While I still enjoy racing our Sonar the (not so big - 34') cruiser...

There's also a lot to be said for buying a freshwater (Great Lakes) boat...they're sailed only 5 - 6 months a year and stored (mostly under cover) on the hard. No salt!

The Fortress has great holding power but doesn't reset particularly well in a wind/tide shift (ask me how I know). Weeds will also foul it. For back-up (or weedy bottom) a Spade is tough to beat....

Same thing happpens on my Yanmar 3DMD...even though I have a folding two-blade prop, Puit it in Reverse. No more rotation. No more noise. No more wear.
