Re: Open Source Marine Linux for Raspberry Pi

OK. I guess my issue must have started with me trying to change the default name of the network to my boat name. It's been a couple of months since I last looked at it, so forgot all the steps i took.

Re: Open Source Marine Linux for Raspberry Pi

How does this release handle creating/sharing a wifi access point? In the previous release (64-bit version) I would create an access point using Gnome, only to have it disappear after about 5...

iNavX now offering CMap, but what happened to Navionics?

I received an email yesterday from iNavX charting software for iPad, that they are now offering a yearly subscription to CMap vector charts. I wanted to compare the pricing ($48 for the CMap world...

Re: What is your primary means of navigation (poll)

I don’t have a dedicated chart plotter on my boat, so I use my iPad. I go back-and-forth between a iNavX and Navionics. I would love to stick with just one (Navionics) but they don’t have all of the...

Re: B&G Zeus3 Heading Extension Line disappeared

My boat speed sender (also B&G) stops working due to growth if it's been more than 2 weeks since I last moved the boat. I've taken to pulling the sensor and putting the blanking plug in whenever I...

Re: Navionics Android App - question about routes

I've experienced that as well on my iPad. My solution is to just recreate the route to B from my current position. It only takes a few seconds, and click "Go" and then "Start"

New B&G Depth only sometimes seen by Navionics App

I'm looking for help figuring out why my Navionics app won't reliably report my depth info, when all of the data seems to be there. I sent a report in to Navionics, but while I wait I thought I'd...

Re: Vesper AIS internal GPS antenna

The GX2400 is an AIS receiver only, not a transponder. The Vesper unit the OP is talking about is a transponder, so I doubt the GX2400 would fit all of their needs.

Re: What is this gunk?

Unfortunately that's not as good a bet as it once was. Most donuts these days (at least the good ones) are a going to cost you more than a dollar.

Re: What's usual for hailing port?

Again, Not a requirement for State registered boats, but for Coast Guard Documented boats, the two letter state abbreviation is a requirement.

If I were putting a hailing port on a state...

Re: Parking Heater Exhaust Condensation / Water Trap

I bought this one off of ebay for $40 US plus $12 shipping. It took about a month to ship though as it came from China.

Re: Installing the B&G WS320 Bluetooth Receiver

Where did you end up installing it that you had a horizontal surface? It seems (at least on my boat) that horizontal surfaces that aren't already used for another purpose are rare.

Re: Installing the B&G WS320 Bluetooth Receiver

I’ve done a little more digging on the B&G website, and it appears that they use the same housing for several instruments, including their GPS antenna. In the GPS installation instructions it is very...

Re: Marine OS for pi featuring OpenCPN and more reached release candidate 3

Ouch! Thanks for the heads-up!

I have had a similar issue with other software before, and when I upgraded my computer found them to be unable to run. In those cases I contacted the seller and they...

Re: Marine OS for pi featuring OpenCPN and more reached release candidate 3

If I choose the 32bit version (sounds like it's more compatible with various components at this time) is there, or will there be an easy upgrade path to 64bit? Or will I essentially be starting over...

Keeping things in place

I often see people post photos of their boat interiors with knick-knacks on the shelves, or potted plants in the cabin, etc. I love the idea of having decorative/personal items to make the boat more...

That was my thinking cutting the cable between the Pi and your tablet. So nice to be able to use your device both in the cabin in the evening and in the cockpit underway, and trying to manage that...
