Re: How to Plan a Circumnavigation?

Hi, wow- five years! Well, we moved out to the boat last autumn. We spent the winter working on the boat and learning all of the systems but we spent very little time actually moving. This summer we...

We go to the hardware store and buy methyl hydrate (which is methanol) its often in the painting section. I can't actually tell you how much it cost off the top of my head but it hasn't broken the...

Re: Diesel for a stove?

Redhead, have you considered getting in touch with Dickinson and asking if there is something you can improve to get the oven up to temp? We have made pizza in ours although it is the "Pacific"...

Re: Diesel for a stove?

We run a Dickinson diesel stove and would never change it! We have no propane below deck on the boat. Diesel is safe and we have two enormous tanks of it anyhow so it seemed like the obvious choice....

Re: Weld on or bolt on to an aluminum hull?

Hi , just wondering: what is the advantage to using the teak backing plates? Is it just for load distribution? I've already made some very strong "tabs" (I'm a moderately competent aluminum welder)...

Weld on or bolt on to an aluminum hull?

I'm going to attach my wind vane self steering soon but still haven't decided whether to bolt it on or weld it on. It's an aluminum hull. I'm not too enthused about putting holes in my hull to bolt...

Re: Strange asymmetrical charge among linked batteries?

Hi everyone, sorry I was unclear. The batteries were connected in parallel. The charging leads were both on one battery. In fact, they were on the battery that remains fully charged. If the discharge...

Strange asymmetrical charge among linked batteries?

Hi,
I'm charging two 210 Ah AGM batteries. They're my house bank and normally they are wired together (+to+ & -to-). However, when I separate them I find that one is nearly 100% soc and the other is...

Re: Creating a haul-out to do list

What is the point of having a forum if the negative nay-sayers jump in all the time before the conversation can get started? Ignoring the unhelpful response, so far we have:
1: zincs
2: engine zinc...

Re: Where to get a webbing reel

So, what is the general consensus on materials and length? I like the polypropylene because it floats but I also like strength of polyester. I bought a 300' length but I see that some people are...

Re: Where to get a webbing reel

I looked at both of these while I was searching. The ultra anchor one is the quickline reel which looks to me to be sort of a light guage stainless. Maybe a little flimsy? And my understanding is...
