Re: Aluminum or steel centerboard cruiser

+1 on this request, though more specifically I’m looking for an Ovni in the 39- 50-foot range. Ovnis seem to be all the rage now.

Re: Where to keep the boat? Mid-Atlantic

+1 for the Barnegat Bay area. It's about an hour and a half from Phillly. We like David Beaton & Sons Boatyard in Brick, NJ. They are a full-serivce boatyard. A quick Google search turns up a few...

Re: Induction stoves for boats

Agreed: Must be gimballed, which is why I also posted the link to the guy who--rather than install his induction cooker beneath the countertop--mounted it to the top of a microwave and gimballed the...

Re: Is liveaboard lifestyle a dying lifestyle

YouTube and Patreon seem to be blowing up with people living the cruising lifestyle and monetizing it. Husband and I bought our boat three years ago and do not live aboard but sail actively when...

Re: Drilling through stainless steel

I have the same problem with our swim ladder. Was thinking I’d just cover the steps with cheap pool noodles, cut to the width of the steps and spliced lengthwise to stretch them around the steps.

Re: Navigation From New Jersey to Long Island

UPDATE:

Hi All:

The sail went well and was uneventful and fun. I ended up not being able to make the trip, but my husband sailed with the hired captain.

At one point, I'm told, the water was...

Re: Navigation From New Jersey to Long Island

Thanks, everyone, for the great advice. Much appreciated!

Our hired captain has said he will only do the trip during the week; no weekend harbor crossings for him.

We're not worried about being...

Re: Navigation From New Jersey to Long Island

Thank you, SVRocinante and hugosalt!

Answers to some of your questions:

- We bought a Watkins 25 because of its 30-inch draft.
- We're hiring a local captain from Brick, NJ to help us out of...

Re: Needed: Boat Inspector

Meridian28, we're looking at a Watkins 25 with a shoal draft in very good shape. We want a boat small enough for me to learn on (My husband sails) that is a nice day sailer or suited for short hops....

Needed: Boat Inspector

Hello All:

I've been a member for a few years but have been inactive for quite a while; been busy getting set up to buy a boat and a place to park it. So now we're ready to buy a boat and have...

Re: The 70% Rule

Spot on. We're looking at boats to get a fix on what we need and how much it will cost. I've been astonished by the number of boats I've seen with clutter all over the inside and bird droppings all...

Re: New´source tax´on exPatriates leaving their country.

Then please explain what an "ethnic" Norwegian is? Don't non-ethnic Norwegians pay taxes, too? Assuming ethnic Norwegians aren't the only ones who work and pay taxes, it would make more sense to...

Re: New´source tax´on exPatriates leaving their country.

Because they already paid their share through Social Security deductions while THEY were working, many while living off teacher and bus driver salaries. And no economy is an island, these days....

Re: New´source tax´on exPatriates leaving their country.

The same happened to my mother-in-law, who now lives in the Netherlands. The difference is income vs. pension funds. Governments change tax rates all the time, but pensions are particularly...

Re: New´source tax´on exPatriates leaving their country.

Wow, too bad all Norwegians can't share the cost of all their citizenry regardless of what color their grandparents are. Shame there's still the need to make distinctions between "ethnic" Norwegians...

Re: New´source tax´on exPatriates leaving their country.

This sounds odd. My husband is a Norwegian citizen who has lived in the U.S. for more than a decade. We have never paid Norwegian tax. The Norwegian tax code says you must be a "resident" of Norway...

I haven't tried conditioner-only in the tropics but am glad to get the heads up that it doesn't necessarily work in those climates. Works well though in very hot or very cold places, where shampoo...
