Well you are literally feeling for a air gap between the glass skin and core. For example if you press on the skin and it moves a bit before it feels solid and looks like it lifts when you let go...

First thing you'll notice is the beams will be ply and timber. Much stronger and fatigue resistant but look for rot and wood quality. Was it marine ply or construction grade? Beams should be marine....

Owning a boat is like having a self propelled waterfront cabin. You don't need to own the island and any time you want to change the scenery you can set sail.

No, that is further North and across Georgia in the Copeland Island chain just south of Desolation Sound. We parked in a "garage" and sailed the dink through the islets last year on the way North....
