Re: Rebel Heart's Contribution to the Cruising Community

I'd say there're very few people on this entire forum who are in the habit of casting stones like the individual who began the Zenamaran...

Re: Rebel Heart's Contribution to the Cruising Community

Monkey Man,

I believe that was a very early posting on this thread by Atoll, before other shortcomings by the Rebel Heart crew were revealed by their blog history, and the "lurking" behavior which...

Re: Rebel Heart's Contribution to the Cruising Community

We're definitely on the same page regarding boat prep. 'tis better to border on paranoia and assume everything might or will fail when SHTF, than to just go out and "wing it." 'Even wear the same...

Re: Rebel Heart's Contribution to the Cruising Community

No. If the boat is sound and you simply "bit off more than you can chew" and find yourself uncomfortable... that's not good enough. Actual medical emergency, out of food and water or the boat is...

Re: Rebel Heart's Contribution to the Cruising Community

"Time for a little education.
So see, this "usual blowhard", as called by the usual personal attacker type of poster (Mr Delfin) seems to have some first hand experience with reality. The truth is...

Re: Rebel Heart's Contribution to the Cruising Community

People only pay to see movies or read books about success stories, heroes and overcoming adversity. Failure does not sell... Just ask the Donald Crowhurst family.

Fiction on the other hand.......

Re: Rebel Heart's Contribution to the Cruising Community

Yes.... I also find it very bizarre and.... curious. I'm also wondering if the family had second thoughts about the adventure a couple of weeks out.

Re: Rebel Heart's Contribution to the Cruising Community

I shortened your quote.

I think your plan is a good one, err on the side of caution is what I take from it. One thing you should/might add for additional safety and/or comfort would be to add 1-2...

Re: Rebel Heart's Contribution to the Cruising Community

Nearly every time I've logging into the CF forum over the past week, I couldn't help noticing that Rebel Heart was logged on reading all the posts related to the topic. Wouldn't it be delightful if...

Re: Rebel Heart's Contribution to the Cruising Community

The RH was depending on electric power produced by the motor to charge the batteries for the electronics including the auto pilot. He also blew out his drifter sail the first time he set it. I...

Re: Rebel Heart's Contribution to the Cruising Community

Only a few humans seem to have access to the software updates. I read a study showing that the human brain has actually been shrinking in size over the past few thousand years. Either use it or loose...

Re: Rebel Heart's Contribution to the Cruising Community

Mark,

By Eric's own admission on his blog, he states that the longest family passage they'd done prior to their 3000 mile attempt was four days in protected waters. I'm certainly no world...

Re: Rebel Heart's Contribution to the Cruising Community

We have more RNs onboard than you do. Two when it's just Mrs. Onassis and I; three when my daughter's onboard, five if my brother and his son come along and six if my best friend Kenny joins us. ...

Re: Rebel Heart's Contribution to the Cruising Community

Ann,

With all due respect, I don't see how any of this is relevant to the discussion. What should it matter, the kind of boat one has or how one chooses to spend money as it relates to cruising...

Re: Rebel Heart's Contribution to the Cruising Community

It's not a question of how much fuel is onboard any vessel, or was on Rebel Heart for that matter. If one is setting out to cross an ocean in any boat, wouldn't a prudent skipper or captain want to...

The definition of Mind boggling to me: I truly can't understand why any person containing even an once of common sense would do such a thing.

When planning to set off with two small children on a...

Re: Rebel Heart's contribution to the cruising community

These examples, dirty diapers washed with cold water in the galley sink, cutting up the primary fuel tank etc. Were taken right from the Kaufman's blogs. Truly Mind boggling stuff.

Re: Rebel Heart's contribution to the cruising community

In the case of Rebel Heart, it wasn't an issue of poor judgement... it was more like a total stuff up by self centered parents. Otherwise I agree with your comments.
