Re: Homebuilt anchor and other things

Like SCOTTORIOUS said Delancey, bloody good post. Thanks for taking the time. You patience is exceeded only by your ability to articulate.

Re: Homebuilt anchor and other things

Hey Delancey. Genuine & honest ( not smart assed) question.
You've done all your own work I know, me too.
But out of curiosity did you buy your anchors or make 'em?
If you made 'em, what design,...

Re: Homebuilt anchor and other things

Greg Burling &Brian Daley, the coroner found, died from CO poisoning from a generator as we had suspected. If you look at the boat there were only two places where a gen could have have been...

Re: Homebuilt anchor and other things

But MATT. You still new a prescribed concentration of the CO. Re: CO, the good thing about a gas engine is that long before the CO bites your lungs it stings the eyes and nose. The exhaust of an...

Re: Homebuilt anchor and other things

Mechanics regularly bleed injectors with the engine running with zero risk. Even the fuel dripping onto an exhaust manifold is very safe because of low manifold temp and also the very low volatility...

Re: Homebuilt anchor and other things

Charliehows. You just cost me data, time & index figer wear and tear.
If you'd put you "cavil" explanation Immediately after its use instead as an addendum, I wouldn't have had to search it. Thanks...

Jim.
A: If the dead chain goes to God then only half the cab fares.
B: I use taxis.
C: It's not every "few" years, it's every 6 (thats double Jim.)
D: You are right though, its nobody business...

Re: Homebuilt anchor and other things

G'day Jim.
My bow chain is now about 3 1/2 years old and whilst it's a browny shade of grey there is no sign rust after being in the water 24x7. It's 250 ft x 5/16 of PWB from Whitworths.
I 'end...

Re: Homebuilt anchor and other things

A good reason for the controversy is that even the very best anchors are so darn inexpensive. Time better spent on other things.
A bit like re-gal an anchor chain....so much effort and cost to save...

Re: Homebuilt anchor and other things

I agree COBG, cooking fires AND electrical fires are probably more prevalent than gasoline fires.
And if I bought your Alden tomorrow I'd be leaving the A4 in it. BUT, I like the idea (on a boat) of...

Re: Homebuilt anchor and other things

COBG. I KNEW ALREADY that you didn't need the tutorial. But not everyone is a clued up as you.
If only one fire in the next 20 years is averted by my rant then it was worth your critisism. And I...

Re: Homebuilt anchor and other things

Thing is COBG, no diesel powered boat is likely to have a catastrophic fire situation unless caused by propane leaks.
Whereas in the world wide media we from time to time hear of gas powered boats...

Re: Homebuilt anchor and other things

I looked at that seachoice plow. You can count on it being like a Lewmar Delta, notorious for pulling in soft mud.
Knew a guy had a delta as big as a house on his 55ft Schoinning cat. Dragged two...

Re: Homebuilt anchor and other things

My bow anchor is a 35lb Manson Supreme & in Australia I paid US $370 for it.
Ashore in Sydney where I often am, I have free & unfettered access to all the materials (316 or HT) and to the rolling,...

Scottorious. If other experts here wish to disagree with me they can and I couldn't care less. But re your bilge blower suggestion. Yes, a bilge blower and I have the best one Jabsco make.
BUT, any...

Re: Homebuilt anchor and other things

I agree A64. Indeed, I'd cruise the world with an Atom or similar if necessary.
Trouble with gas monitors re fuel leaks is that with numerous things on the motor pruducing sparks continuously, by...

Re: Homebuilt anchor and other things

My biggest objection regading Atomic engines or ANY gasoline engine "when fitted within the confines of a hull" is this.
Unless a gas engine is fuel injected (and Atomics et al ) aren't, they have a...

Re: Homebuilt anchor and other things

With respect, I can't see a LOT of followers coming on board re making a cheaper anchor etc.
Atomic 4. I'm an old mechanic and so can see very clearly why petrol engines are WAY less safe than...
