Re: Coax cable for long run up mast

The capture effect is a function of power, not audio, e.g., you can capture an FM receiver squelch with an unmodulated (no deviation) signal. Audio intensity field measurements are entirely different...

Re: Coax cable for long run up mast

Assumed you would do your own research. None have an AGC circuit as it isn’t relevant or useful for FM.

If there is a marine VHF which does, it’s a dual use radio for SSB or AM reception.

Re: Coax cable for long run up mast

You must be a new ham. Time to ‘hit the books’.

We’re not talking about audio level. We are discussing a power function which is entirely different. While you cannot hear a 1.5dB audio...

Re: Coax cable for long run up mast

It’s your premise which is wrong - there is no such thing as “enough” under varying circumstances, conditions, distances, etc... it will always be a difference answer.

“Enough” is whatever is...

Re: Coax cable for long run up mast

First, a 25 w radio doesn’t radiate 25 w at the antenna. Second, sometimes, 25 w isn’t “enough”. More important than 1or 2, it’s 20% or more of the signal lost as coax loss and saying its “only 1.5...

Re: Coax cable for long run up mast

Very misleading....

That’s roughly 20% of power. That can be a “big whoop” under marginal conditions.

Also, connectors if properly installed have no inherent loss.
