Fasteners.

I would be tempted to use composite fasteners, they don’t corrode, they don’t destroy planer blades and their expansion coefficient doesn’t move around and push the screw heads out...

Re: Trimaran - Especially Searunner - Owners

Steve,
Totally agree, gop is a much more honest description.
And for the record I have no issues with gop boats, all construction methods have pros and cons.

Re: Trimaran - Especially Searunner - Owners

Fibreglass sheathing over plywood does not turn a plywood boat into a fibreglass boat.
Play with the semantics all you want. It’s a deception.

Re: Trimaran - Especially Searunner - Owners

It seems de rigueur now for brokers to call fibreglass construction if they find any fibreglass onboard. You’ll find it is glass over plywood. If it was foam sandwich they would be shouting it from...

Re: Trimaran - Especially Searunner - Owners

Hobby-horsing: Without going into serious structural remodelling another remedy could be the T foil rudder, I have no experience personally and wether it's a good fit on this boat or that is up to...

Re: Trimaran - Especially Searunner - Owners

And whilst I'm here. My biggest concern with the LithiumFe batteries is not the batteries themselves but the reliability of the electronics they depend on. Electronics and salt water have never been...

Re: Trimaran - Especially Searunner - Owners

Owly;
My only qualm about your 80% discharge regime is that it is going to shorten the life of the batteries, and, human nature being what it is the replacement won't be on a schedule but when the...

Re: Trimaran - Especially Searunner - Owners

HW, kicking foils forward also works towards preventing ventilation.
Another win.

Re: Trimaran - Especially Searunner - Owners

Cav; I need a boat too ! But meanwhile I'm learning from others mistakes and thinking is free.
Now since we are talking energy, water and technology density, I have questions. [emoji2]
Short...

Re: Trimaran - Especially Searunner - Owners

Supplementary question.
Owly, are you suggesting making ice separately from the main cooler ? Like in a superinsulated box ?
And then transferring it to a cooler.
I would think that running a...

Re: Trimaran - Especially Searunner - Owners

Owly;
Thanks for the posts, fascinating stuff. I knew about the energy density of water from studying sustainability but never saw it applied to the yacht, good one.
I assume your battery figures...

Re: Trimaran - Especially Searunner - Owners

Surely the easiest way to multitask manpower is to store it in a battery as amphours no ?
Otherwise you are creating to many devices ?
Although,
Say you have stationary bicycle as the key...

Re: Trimaran - Especially Searunner - Owners

I think Randy nailed it, a water maker would potentially be your biggest weight and storage saver, if it can be sensibly sized and powered. I have no experience with them. What say others ? Growing...

Re: Trimaran - Especially Searunner - Owners

Re: Trimaran - Especially Searunner - Owners

Oh and for what it's worth, given your criteria, I would have gone balestron.
As far as junk rig goes I think the most promising endeavours for multihulls are the aerofoil types.
Cheers,
