Re: Sydney To Hobart 2015-2016

Particularly on the last one it was truly remarkable the way he and his team had managed to maintain an old racing boat competitive with extreme alterations and modifications, from DSS (the first big...

Re: Sydney To Hobart 2015-2016

Thanks for the nice words:smile:. In fact I am glad to find some that like to share with me my interest about racing and fast performance cruisers. The truth is that sailors complain about the...

Re: Sydney To Hobart 2015-2016

Correction, on the Division 3 from 11 boats, 5 retired and not 4 as I posted above (cannot edit the post).

Re: Sydney To Hobart 2015-2016

That would be a long answer. The truth is that there should be already a world handicap system and there is not yet. The two most accurate ones are IRC and ORCI, being IRC by far the more used but...

Re: Sydney To Hobart 2015-2016

2th overall was Courrier Leon the 35ft JPK 10.80 that arrived more than 13 hours before the S&S 34. Both boats made a great race taking into account their sailing potential.

As I have said, in...

Re: Sydney To Hobart 2015-2016

A Twit from the S2H

@rshyr (https://twitter.com/rshyr)

The really light winds forecast suggest any boat still at sea faces a major uphill battle for overall win.

That is the same to say...

Re: Sydney To Hobart 2015-2016

Yes, but what makes it stupid is that it was not necessary to win. They had just to shadow and control Ragamuffin. Any gamble when there is no need to gamble to win is a very amateurish and a poor...

Re: Sydney To Hobart 2015-2016

Now that line honours are decided let's see who wins the race:smile:

Curiously those production cruiser/racers that I said I was impressed with, regarding real time racing and talked about on a...

Re: Sydney To Hobart 2015-2016

Yes, well played by Ragamuffin and no excuses for Rambler. They were slightly faster and all that they had to do was shadowing Ragamuffin covering all their moves. Just at the end they decided to go...

Re: Sydney To Hobart 2015-2016

It seems that Rambler is more damaged than Ragamuffin. Normally Ragamuffin would not be a match but regarding the situation they are in it is difficult to predict an outcome: they are sailing almost...

Re: Sydney To Hobart 2015-2016

Contrary to the performance of old slow boats that can win the race sailing on its tail, I am interested by the real performance of inexpensive production dual purpose boats (cruiser/racers) face...

Re: Sydney To Hobart 2015-2016

I have nothing with against ocean club racing with all types of boats with the victory being attributed by rating I am only talking about Ocean professional top/amateurs top racing on a worldwide...

Re: Sydney To Hobart 2015-2016

I am only interested in the tradition of S2H in what regards the race to be one of the top in the world and to remain so it cannot be raced, much less wined by slow out dated sailboats through some...

Re: Sydney To Hobart 2015-2016

I believe just a bad interpretation of this statement “We lost the main engine of the boat so it was all over,” ...
He was referring to the mainsail not to the boat engine.

Several other boats,...

Re: Sydney To Hobart 2015-2016

It seems that in what regards line honors the race is decided regarding the first four (if nothing odd happens): Comanche, Rambler, Ragamuffin and Maserati.

Regarding the winner of the race things...

Re: Sydney To Hobart 2015-2016

Yes, the difference between professional and amateurs. For an amateur to finish a S2H means something, for a professional crew that is there to fight to be the first boat across the finish line,...

Re: Sydney To Hobart 2015-2016

Rambler damaged too:

“We have no idea what we hit, we couldn’t see it,” Rambler’s Australian navigator Andrew Cape said by satellite phone a short time ago. “It might have been marine life or...

Re: Sydney To Hobart 2015-2016

And Rambler overtook Comanche and I don't think that Comanche can catch it on the lighter winds. I really like that boat, a 88ft beating two 100ft boats: A great design by JK.

Regarding the fight...

Re: Sydney To Hobart 2015-2016

Not, not even on circumnavigation races, like the Vendee Globe they carry a spar mainsail. One of the problems is the cost of a huge mainsail, the other is the extra weight.

On the Vendee globe a...

Re: Sydney To Hobart 2015-2016

Not plenty time. Yes some time but not the 4 hours I would expect them to take for drooping a rudder and to put another in place and that would be an accomplishment in itself giving the sea...

Re: Sydney To Hobart 2015-2016

Bad luck for Rambler: those light winds near Tasmania will only be there 12 hours from now and they are already there sailing with 15k winds. Ahead there are slightly weaker winds but nothing like...

Re: Sydney To Hobart 2015-2016

And regarding the 1st boat to arrive to Hobart the race seems to be now between a damaged? Comanche and the smaller Rambler.

I don't know if they managed to repair the boat but the truth is that...
